New South Wales Country Directory 1926. 1926. Directories and Almanacs are a valuable resource for local, family and social historians as well as for researchers in other fields of Australian history. While they do not give you birth, death and marriage details - the core records for genealogists - they can certainly provide you with information on the region that your ancestors lived, as well as information on their occupation/s and where. Published in 1926, this issue of 'Moores Directory' is the 75th year of its release. Consisting of over 650 pages, it is divided into two main sections. Part one contains the Almanac, which covers a calendar of remarkable days, moon phases, bank holidays, tide times, even a Jewish calendar and medical 'things worth knowing', together with directories on Government, Law, Ecclesiastical, Educational, Public Institutions, Postal and Telegraphic departments. The 'Country Directory' section, which totals about 2/3 of the book, lists hundreds of New South Wales towns. Listed in alphabetical order, each beings with geographical information on the town, and is then followed by the various services available, together with those who supply them. You will find town clerks, mayors, auctioneers, medical practitioners, hairdressers, bootmakers, publicans, shop owners, policemen, school and post office employees, and plumbers to name a few. A valuable resource for those with family in New South Wales in this time frame.
